Dear State of Florida

Dear State of Florida,

We need the property tax relief ASAP. You don’t want People of State Florida driving visitors away, do you? Of course, I guess you want Alysa Liu’s smiley face* type on Floridians’ faces instead of bulldog-style faces; so, more and more people will visit Florida and are willing to spend more; then more sales taxes are generated.

I’m broke and so are other people. I saw many properties just listing last week; all were listed around at the same time. It looks like their properties would go to the auction soon, for 2 years due (May 30, 2025) plus 18% interest rate (I guess so) and all kind of fees for the paperwork and administration, because they had no money to pay for the property taxes which were due 2 years ago; or probably, they don’t have money to pay the property taxes which was due last Monday, March 31, 2025; and the properties are soon to be sold as property tax certificates.

We don’t have money left, so no spending plus must to save for the next coming property taxes. We must use less electricity, utility… which means no turn on A/C for the summer or the winter. Probably, we have to cut the internet/iPhone/smart phone services and/or stop driving. Of course, there is no eating out, no restaurant food, no store hot food, no junk food, no coke, no fast food…

Definitely, there is no thought about any food or drink from McDonalds, Burger King, Papa John, Subway, Starbucks and so on and forget about new clothes/shoes or new laptop computers or iPad or iPhone 17/Pro/Pro Max or new cars… no Tesla, no Ford F150/F250/F350, no Ford Expedition, no steaks, no red wine… For sure, we have to say “no” to new furniture, tv, refrigerator, range, dishwasher, bed… “no” to remodeling the kitchen, bathroom… or “no” to adding an additional room like a Florida room/sunroom.

401K? stock? gold? bitcoin?… Do we have any of them? Nope, most of us don’t have any of them at all. Actually, we are the generations who are suffering from September 11, 2001, and until now. Majority of us have been working for the Temp agencies, undesirable jobs and/or unemployment sometimes since. As a temp worker, we could be kicked out at any minute, earn a low pay rate, get minimal benefit or no benefit at all. It’s kind of hard landing a job as a permanent employee into a big box corporation or the federal agency.

We need no more property taxes. I’m so cheap now; cheap up to the point there is no way to be cheaper. I have been squeezing every $ as I can, just for the property tax payments. You know what, my niece and nephews are uncomfortable accepting anything from me because they saw I squeezed every $ as I can.
